The Inaugural Ace Open well be held on June 11, 2023, at Brookstone Golf and Country Club in Acworth, Georgia. It is a women’s and men’s doubles round-robin tennis event. Our goal is to raise money for the Shepherd Center where my grandpa rehabilitated after a tragic accident. My name is Nolen, I am 15 years old. My grandparents were victims of the Ft. Lauderdale airport shooting on January 6, 2017. Grandpa was brutally shot in the head and my beautiful grandma was killed.
After multiple surgeries, my grandpa was released from Broward County Hospital and was admitted where he underwent rehabilitation for his traumatic brain injury. With their help, he learned how to walk, talk and live again. Shepherd Center has world-renowned speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, and more. I remember going with him on one of his recreational therapy sessions which was walking to Chic-fil-A across the street and ordering lunch. My grandpa is still with us today thanks to his team of professionals at Shepherd Center.
